Instructional Trips

While all of our guided trips involve some instruction, we also offer opportunities to focus specifically on teaching the in-depth skills you need to become a better, more self-sufficient angler, regardless of your skill level. Beginner or experienced, we can help you improve your game. Our instructors are skilled and patient, and want to do everything they can to meet your goals.

Our instructional offerings consist of:

Casting Clinics

Casting Clinics are typically two hours long. These clinics are custom-tailored to your abilities, for everyone from the beginner who wants to get started off right, to the more experienced angler looking to refine their technique. We can accommodate 1-4 people for our casting clinics.

Half-Day Instructional

Our half-day instructional  trips will cover casting instruction, knots, basic entymology (bugs), reading water, fly presentation and fly/equipment selection. These classes also include some time on the water on a local creek where you can put your new skills to use.

Full-Day Instructional

Full-day instructional trips will include all of the above on a local creek in the morning, plus a half-day float on a larger river in the afternoon. This gives experience and skill-building in both wade fishing and driftboat fishing for a more well-rounded experience.

Spey Clinics

Two-handed fly rods, and the casting techniques that one needs to use them, are one of the hottest segments of the sport right now. They are very popular for steelhead, but a growing contingent is realizing that they can be a great way to fish large flies on big water for trout as well. On most Thursday evenings throughout the latter half of the summer, join our resident two-hand guru, Howard Cole, on the bank of the Snake River for a free clinic. Please call the shop for times and locations.
